Kick up your hummus with a bit of sweet and spicy in this easy-to-prepare Sriracha Hummus.

When I first got my home, I bought a lot of kitchen gizmos without knowing anything about what I wanted. Most of what I chose was based on looks. It looked pretty. It looked nice. Blah. Blah. Blah.
That’s how I ended up with our retro stainless no-frills blender. After a few smoothies, I realized how pathetic my new blender was. Luckily, I didn’t use it much and I hid it in the cupboard.
Fast forward a few years and a few kids later and that pathetic blender is even more pathetic. Every time I made the kids a smoothie, the darn thing would get stuck and leak – from the bottom. I had to disassemble the pitcher and wash it after each use because the parts would get gross on me if I didn’t. It was a chore.
I got grumpy. I stopped using the blender. I started doing research on new ones. I published a cookbook. I forgot about the new blender I needed. Then last summer my kids repeatedly asked for smoothies and I hauled out the crummy blender and cursed at it. Oh yeah, my blender sucks.
Repeat grumpy cycle.

So you can imagine my enthusiasm when the folks at Ninja Blender asked me if I wanted to try out their blender. Perfect timing! I figured ANYTHING was better than my old one.
I started using it with simple stuff, like a simple smoothie for the kids. Holy Crap! This sucker is super powerful! What would take my old blender 3-5 minutes to blend, took my Ninja less than 20 seconds.
Let me repeat: LESS THAN 20 SECONDS.

“This is so cool!” the kids cried out.
The Ninja has a big pitcher with these crazy blades. Also included are various smoothie canisters of different sizes. The 32-ouncer is the perfect size for mixing up smoothies for my 3 kids.
The power that this thing kicks out is mind-blowing. It chops up ice and frozen strawberries in seconds. It’s 1300 watts of power will make you a believer, too!
For the past month we have been enjoying smoothies, piña coladas and countless other blended treats. I am totally in love with my new blender.
I was inspired to go beyond the smoothie and made this Sriracha Hummus with it.

I want to make chocolate smoothies!
I would start with smoothies, but then the sky would be the limit with new recipes! I’d love to try a hummus recipe like yours! I’ve tried making hummus before. I went through the whole process starting with dry garbanzo beans. I’d definitely try again with a ninja blender!!
Hi Laura, I have a blender story too. My first blender was a Kitchenaid, which I purchased in the early 1990’s. It was a great blender until the motor burned up! The model was discontinued, so Kitchenaid didn’t repair or replace it. I purchased other blenders through the years, but haven’t met a “keeper” yet. I have heard great things about the Ninja and I have been considering it as my next blender (and hopefully, a keeper!). I happened to stumble across your blog today, so here I write. If I were to be so lucky to win a Ninja,… Read more »
I would use it to make so much PESTO!
I would use the blender to make so much PESTO!
Well…obviously I’d make your Sriracha Hummus!
Ohhh I have been dying to upgrade with a Ninja! I have been making smoothies with my old Oster blender and attempted with another brand a friend gave to me – not that I am hiding the name – I just have no memory of what it was. But each time I make a healthy smoothie for my 8 year old or husband – they play the “Well, I tasted it” game. But when visiting the local small cafe shop that uses the Ninja – Always my 8 year old maked sure that smoothie is finished! Same exact ingredients: kale,… Read more »

I’d love to have something to make smoothies (and perfect pina coladas!) in!!
I found your site while looking for the red velvet cake recipe using beets. I’m trying to incorporate healthier fare to aid my (and my husband’s) aging physique(s), attempting to please without sugar. I also can appreciate your engineering husband stories, but I must say, I love my husband’s wide skill set that comes with his engineering mind – so many solutions for so little cost. Being frugal as we may try, I love new things, but often find the sales pitch promises disappointing upon experience. However, the Ninja reviews I have researched do encourage me. Hence, I would love… Read more »
Smoothies yum
My daughter is converting me to a more healthy/organic eating habit….so it would be smoothies for me for a start….this blender would help kickstart my conversion!
Well there are no engineers in the house but the blender hasn’t worked in months because “we can just order a part for it” not even certain that the part is the issue since it doesn’t turn on to test the theory but alas I have had to leave blenders behind at the till on more than a few occasions because it gets spotted… argh – the very first thing I’d blend up is the most amazing chocolate mousse recipe that I’ve been craving since the exact moment the blender died since it was what I had planned to make… Read more »
