I love giving homemade gifts to friends and family for birthdays, holidays and any other rhyme or reason. I started with baking, from brownie cookies to loaves of lemon olive oil cake and then rum raisin fudge.
Foodie gifts are a must when you are a food blogger, but I soon realized that many of my friends and family preferred boozy gifts. They saw my post on how to make pomegranate infused vodka and asked, “Why didn’t you give us a bottle?”
So this year, my friends are getting another boozy gift: this delicious and easy-to-make pomegranate tequila.
Why you must try this recipe
Flavored vodka and tequila are a great way to make your cocktails shine. Unfortunately, they tend to cost a fortune. But you can easily infuse your booze at home with whatever fruity flavors you want.
We recently discovered pomegranate tequila at Costco. Now I am not a big drinker, but I really liked the flavor it had. Because it was pomegranate, our family’s favorite fruit, I knew that we had to recreate it ourselves.
Pomegranate tequila is easy to make and I give you two great options to make it at home. You will love the fruity flavor and how easy it is to make. And of course, it is easy on the wallet, too!

- Tequila: You can use gold or silver tequila, whatever brand you love.
- Pomegranate: If you want to infuse your tequila with pomegranate, you will need fresh pomegranate arils.
- Pomegranate concentrate: If you want a stronger pomegranate flavor, find some pomegranate concentrate at middle eastern stores or online. This is pomegranate juice reduced to a syrup with NO sugar added. Pomegranate molasses has sugar. Don’t use that.
Step-by-step directions
If you want to infuse your tequila with pomegranate, simply add pomegranate arils to a bottle of silver or gold tequila and let it infuse for 2 weeks in a dark and cool place. The longer the fruit sits in the tequila, the more fruit flavor will be infused.
If you want a stronger pomegranate flavor and not wait several weeks, use pomegranate concentrate instead. Use 1.5 parts pomegranate concentrate for every 12 parts of your favorite tequila.
The amount of pom flavor depends greatly on the brand of concentrate you buy, whether it’s POM or the ones you find at a middle-eastern grocery store. I personally prefer the Persian Sadaf brand. I have never found the POM variety so I can’t comment on that flavor.
The color is darker and the flavor stronger if you use pomegranate concentrate.
Recipe tips and FAQs
If you are making pomegranate tequila with the pomegranate concentrate, it is ready to be served right away. So pour your friends a shot, even add some pomegranate arils in the shot glass and you’ll have a real crowd pleaser with this drink!
If you are out of time and have no pomegranate concentrate, don’t fret. Throw some pomegranate arils in your small bottles of tequila or vodka, gift them to your friends with instructions to strain out the arils in 2-3 weeks. And if your friends are like my husband, enjoy those arils. They are like mini shots of booze.
There are two ways to make homemade pomegranate tequila. You can infuse tequila (gold or silver) with pomegranate arils for 2-3 weeks, then strain out the fruit. For better flavor, add some pomegranate concentrate to your tequila and enjoy right away.
If you are infusing pomegranate with tequila, you have to strain out the fruit after 2-3 weeks to prolong its shelf life. Once the fruit is removed, your pomegranate tequila can last for a very long time. I had a couple friends who forgot about it, since it was pushed to the back of their shelf. After 2 years, it was still smooth and delicious!
