Rainbow Bagel Toppings

These Rainbow Bagel Toppings remind us that nature provides us all the beautiful fruits and vegetables we want in every color of the rainbow, naturally, without artificial dyes and full of vitamins, fiber and antioxidants we need to keep our bodies healthy. Sponsored by Wolf Gourmet.

When my kids came home from school after I shot the pictures for this post, the first they asked me was whether they could all the fruit. There is something about a bounty of colorful, fresh fruit that makes us all swoon. It’s our bodies way of telling us that this is good for us and we need more of it.

Well, that’s what I tell my kids.

Who needs unicorn frappuccinos filled with a week’s worth of sugar and artificial dyes when you can eat the rainbow naturally. Okay, I’m not saying that a sugar-laden caffeinated beverage is equal to a bowl full of fruit. But if we introduce our kids to the variety of produce out there, they will appreciate that there is more to eat than an apple, banana and watermelon.

Our own FDA can’t keep up with food trends or medical research. The food pyramid is now a plate. Filling up on breads is replaced with filling up on fruits and vegetables.

It’s hard to practice what you preach, totally. But with spring here and summer around the corner, it’s the best time to bring out the brightly colored produce to the family table.

Now these rainbow bagels can be an understated breakfast, just present a platter of fruit with your bagels and schmears. Or you can make a game of it with your kids: What red fruits should we try today? Can you name 4 green fruits? How many blue fruits are there?

You can also go sweet with fruits or savory with vegetables. Choose tomatoes, carrots and fresh herbs instead of sweet berries. Customize your breakfast bagel to suit your taste buds. Kids, impress your mom with these healthy food choices for mother’s day – trust me, that would be such an AWESOME Mother’s Day gift.

So if you are planning a fun brunch and want to offer a rainbow bagel topping assembly line, here are some great fruit and vegetable options for all of the colors of the rainbow.

Red fruits and vegetables

There’s a reason why a heart is red. Red fruits and vegetables are loaded with healthy antioxidants like lycopene and anthocyanins. They help fight heart disease, prostate cancer and decrease the risk for strokes.

Yellow fruits and vegetables

Yellow is one of my favorite colors because it is such a happy color that reminds me of sunshine. Yellow produce is high antioxidants and vitamin C, which help your heart, vision, digestion and immune system. Now that is something to be happy about!

Green fruits and vegetables

The color green, which it comes to nutrition, packs on heck of a health punch. We’re talking antioxidants, fiber, folate, calcium and vitamin C. Any time we can sneak in some green into our foods, you should do it!

Blue fruits and vegetables

This is one part of the color spectrum where one fruit reigns supreme: the blueberry. Blueberries are rich in fiber, potassium, folate, vitamin C, vitamin B6.

Purple fruits and vegetables

Purple produce is my favorite produce, mostly because we can now find so many unusual foods stunning our plates in aubergine. This purple pigment is a rich antioxidant giving us the immune boost we can all use in our day-to-day life.

Rainbow bagel buffet

Kids love having a say in what they eat, so these rainbow bagels are super kid-friendly and crowd-friendly, too. For your bagel buffet, offer up a variety of bagels, from plain to everything to cinnamon raisin. You can also add plain and flavored cream cheeses, too. Mix them with colored fruit and you will have rainbow cream cheese spreads, too!

Then pile on the fruits and vegetables from one end of the rainbow spectrum to the other. Be sure to chop them into bit size pieces, making them easy to laden onto the bagel and easy eating, too.

Wolf Gourmet toaster review

Wolf Gourmet has been a great supporter of my blog, supplying me with their wonderful products to review. And today is no different. They sent me this fabulous 4-slice toaster and bread knife to review. Just like all of their other products, this toaster is durable enough for a commercial use, but available for your home kitchen. That means it’s tough enough to handle all the chaos your family and kitchen provides.

What I loved about this toaster?

And their bread knife. One thing I have learned from all of my years food blogging is the appreciate of the right tools for the right job. This is one fabulous bread knife. It cut my bagels, baguette and dinner rolls perfectly. Then again, this is probably my engineer husband’s influence more than food blogging.
