With these last few weeks of summer break, life is getting busy again. From back-to-school shopping to school registration, the pace is starting to quicken. I am bracing myself for what is ahead and mentally preparing myself. Of course the reality of summer vacation isn’t all about frolicking in the beach.

It includes shopping and running errands with three kids in tow. Granted they are older now, with my baby being 10 1/2, but it still doesn’t make the experience go smoothly. There’s bickering over who gets to push the cart – yes, my 15-year old is battling my 10 -year old over the shopping cart. Oh, and don’t forget the extra stuff that you weren’t planning on buying, but some how ended up in your cart anyway. Loads of fun.

So when Ralphs’ Grocery Stores asked me to try out their online shopping service, Click List, I knew I had to give it a try. Ordering online is easy enough. If you are comfortable with the computer, you can easily navigate and find what you are looking for. I love that Ralphs has a button for you to browse all of their sale items. I ordered some produce, some meat and a few pantry items.

Click. Click. Click.

Checkout is also done online, so you pay your bill before you pickup your groceries. Next, you select your pickup time, which is usually the next day. I received a confirmation email from Ralphs with instructions on where to go pickup my groceries. Easy peasy.

I easily found the two stalls marked in the parking lot for Ralphs Click List customers. Call the phone number to let them know you have arrived and give them the name on your order. You don’t have to leave your air conditioned car.

OMG my kids were so happy to chill in the minivan while we waited those few minutes. We had spent the day running errands and they were hot and grumpy. They were amused by the notion of sitting in the car and waiting for our groceries to be delivered!

These two nice ladies came with a wagon pulling our groceries just a few minutes after I parked and called. They went over my order, showed me what substitutions were made (which benefited me) and gave me my printed bill.

For example, I ordered 2 large avocados. They explained that they were out of the large size and gave me 2 extra large avocados for the price of the large. My mangos (for my mango coleslaw), avocados and blueberries were in perfect shape, with no cuts, bruises or mold. My meat was cold and looked great. My pantry items were all there.

What a great experience this was. I can totally see this benefiting those of you who are pressed for time – anyone picking up groceries on your way home from work or squeezing in a trip between soccer practice and piano lessons? It’s perfect for families who find shopping to be a major challenge because you have too many kids (I’m waving my hand!) or kids with special needs or disabilities. It’s even terrific for those sweaty hot days when you don’t want to get out of your air conditioned car!

There is a $6.95 fee to use this service, but it is waived for your first three ClickList orders. Seriously, there’s no excuse for you NOT to try this curb side service! Local San Diego peeps, right now this is only available at their Carlsbad Store, but be on the lookout as this service is expanding to their other stores this fall.

Now I’m off to use my lovely mangos to make more of my favorite, mango coleslaw. It’s a fun and fruity salad to help us cool off during this hot month of August. It’s even better with hot dogs and sausages!
