Pan Seared New York Strip Steak with Herb Butter

Sometimes it's the simplest recipes that taste the best. This recipe is perfect for any cut of steak. Recipe by Laura Bashar of Family Spice

  1. Approximately 30 minutes prior to cooking, remove from the refrigerator, rinse and pat dry:
    • 2 New York strip steak
  2. Season both sides of the steaks with:
    • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
    • 1/8 tsp black pepper, ground
  3. Let steaks sit at room temperature for 30 minutes.
  4. Heat a large non-stick pan or grill pan over high heat.
  5. Add steaks to the hot pan and cook until seared, or browned, 5 minutes.
  6. Turn steaks over and sear other side, again for approximately 5 minutes.
  7. Reduce heat to medium-high and continue cooking until desired doneness, flipping steak over every 5 minutes for even cooking. For medium-rare, a 1-inch steak would require another 5-7 minutes of cooking.
  8. Transfer steaks to serving plate, cover with foil loosely and allow to rest for 5 minutes.
  9. Using the same hot pan, heat over medium heat and add:
    • 1 TBS butter, unsalted
  10. When butter is melted and starting to foam, turn off heat and add:
    • 1/4 tsp chives , minced
    • 1/2 tsp parsley, American , minced
    • 1/4 tsp thyme, fresh , minced
  11. Heat herbs in the hot butter for 2 minutes, then drizzle over the steaks and serve.
