I may not be a big drinker, but I do enjoy a refreshing fruity cocktail every now and again. I prefer rum cocktails to vodka, and of course, don’t forget the fruit!

My husband is the alcohol aficionado in the family and I managed to make him a convert when it comes to infusing fruit with booze. We have made pomegranate tequila, pomegranate vodka and strawberry vodka.

Today I am sharing another great fusion of flavors, blackberry basil rum. And I use this to make a delicious blackberry cocktail.

Why you have to try this recipe

Whether you are looking to try something new, or want a fun halloween cocktail to serve your guests, this blackberry black devil is pretty delicious.

You can make a black devil martini with vodka. But since I preferred rum, my husband decided to experiment.

We started with our own infused rum by adding blackberries and fresh basil. This infusion process does take a few weeks for the flavor to really shine, so you can use store bought blackberry rum – if you can find it.

Now a black devil martini is usually served with an olive. But with my love for extra virgin olive oil (check out my olive oil cookbook here) and adding olive oil to to cocktails, I decided to add a splash to this black devil.

If you have never tried an olive oil cocktail, don’t poo poo it. Olive oil helps smooth the drink. You can even use infused oils like a basil, lemon or fruit infused olive oil

In the end, you have a great unique drink that is also delicious.

Ingredients you need

Fresh blackberries in a small martini glass

Step-by-step directions

1. In a large jar, place blackberries and basil. Cover berries and basil with rum. Seal jar and refrigerate 1-4 weeks until desire flavor is reached. NOTE: Discard basil after 1 week.
