Tomorrow marks the first day of Spring. And on the Persian calendar, it is also the first day of the new year. Actually, the Spring Vernal Equinox falls today, March 20th, at 6:45 P.M. EDT. It’s a time to gather with your family, sit around the haft sin and share the traditional meal of sabzi pollo ba mahi (herbed rice with fish), kookoo sabzi (herb quiche) and ash-e reshteh (noodle soup).
My family and I celebrated last night, one night early. This is the first time that I will be away from my family for Nowruz. I will be attending the California Olive Oil Council’s annual meeting in Monterey. Not too shabby. Of course, instead of enjoying the outdoors and family time, I will be inside talking and learning more about the olive oil industry.
It’s all good.
My haft sin has been up all week. A little early, but I had to get everything ready on this end before I left for my trip. Every year I make my haft sin a little differently. I hope you enjoy this year’s set up. I went a little rustic.

I am also celebrating Nowruz this year with Raw Spice Bar.
If you love to cook and you love to try out new spices, then listen up! Raw Spice Bar has a monthly subscription plan, where you receive 3-4 freshly ground spice blends from one geography or region, enough to create 3 dishes serving 8-12 people. They also provide you with recipes that use those spices. So if you are ever confused about what to make some of these exotic spices, Raw Spice Bar takes the guesswork out for you.
So, instead of joining the fruit of the month club, you are joining a very cool spice club! Each spice of the month club subscription is a one time purchase and can be purchased in increments of 3, 6 or 12 months.
For my giveaway, one winner will receive a 6-month subscription from Raw Spice Bar and a copy of my Nowruz ebook.
You have no excuse to try something new and exotic!
