New Ebook: Cooking Techniques with Olive Oil {Giveaway}

Cooking Techniques with Olive Oil

I am stoked and thrilled to be writing this post. After months of no sleep, hard work, no sleep and endless days behind the computer, I am ready to share with the world my latest project. I had a great opportunity presented to me, and instead of thinking rationally, I took the bull by the horns and jumped in head first. Too many analogies? Well, that’s how I roll! After a year of deliberating and researching on self-publishing and ebooks, I have finally co-written and photographed my first ebook with fellow food blogger, Mary Platis, aka California Greek Girl. You may not be able to understand this, but right now, I am truly at a loss for words. It is difficult to express how elated I am feeling. I am not good with words, as my husband can attest. I can not believe that Mary and I are finally here.

Cooking Techniques with Olive Oil

The book is called Cooking Techniques with Olive Oil. We have taken our passion for olive oil and transferred it into a beautiful ebook. We discuss how to choose and store your olive oil, how it’s made, plus the health benefits of olive oil and the Mediterranean Diet. The subsequent chapters explain how to use olive oil with each featured cooking technique. We discuss the do’s and don’ts to poaching, braising, marinating, steaming, baking, infusing, whipping, blending, and roasting with olive oil. And let’s not forget that we can enjoy olive oil raw, straight out of the bottle!

And we are strictly talking extra virgin olive oil – the good stuff!

Did you know…..

Fact: Olive oil color does not determine the quality of the olive oil.

Fact: Olive oil is rich in antioxidants.

Fact: Olive oil has been found to boost the immune system and fight against many diseases, such as cancer, diabetes and obesity.

Cooking Techniques with Olive Oil is a great resource for cooks of all skill levels. You can be a caterer, blogger, chef or home cook and you will learn something new. In all honesty, you don’t need to be a gourmet cook to enjoy this book. You just need to be a food and olive oil enthusiast. And who doesn’t enjoy good food?!

Cooking Techniques With Olive Oil Authors

During the upcoming summer months, Mary and I will continue to educate everyone about olive oil. We will be touring local California olive groves and showing you how olive oil is pressed. We will hold olive oil tastings and post additional fun olive oil recipes. And we will share more great olive facts in our posts and tweets.

And did I mention our ebook features over 25 unique extra virgin olive oil recipes, using fresh, wholesome ingredients?

Cooking Techniques with Olive Oil

Can you use olive oil in scones? We sure did!

Can you use olive oil in cocktails? Heck, yeah!

You poached meat in olive oil??! Yup, and it was dee-licious!

I feel like a tv infomercial, but I’m super excited to share this book with all of you. The Cooking Techniques with Olive Oil ebook is available right now at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. We are also selling an enhanced PDF version here. The iTunes version will include videos and will be available this fall. AND, we are incredibly optimistic about getting this in print, so stay tuned as this develops.

I am pretty simple when it comes to olive oil, and I don’t know many uses for it, but I am just the husband, my wife is the amazing cook, and so I am entering this for her, but I know that she loves the way olive oil tastes over all the other oils.

  2. Woot! I am SO happy for you two ! Talk about a labor of love. Wishing you a huge amount of success with this beautiful book – I can’t wait to read it. My favorite thing to do with olive oil…dip in fresh crusty bread, of course! Congrats!!!!! xoxo

  3. Cathy @ She Paused 4 Thought at #

Gorgeous! I love olive oil combined with balsamic vinegar to dip homemade bread in.

  4. barbara at #

I like a good quality flavor fused olive oil combined with a good quality balsamic vinegar in place of salad dressing.

  5. Congratulations Laura and Mary!!! That’s so exciting and Olive oil is a great topic. I converted my husband to Olive oil a few years back and now slowly everybody is following. Just the other day somebody here asked me what they could cook with oilve oil. Of course I had some ideas but I am eager to learn more. A pity I can’t take part in your contest, the ebook and goodies look amazing! btw I love the book cover too, it’s gorgeous and one can see that you worked very detailed.

I am such a naturalist when it comes to olive oil. I use it for everything from cooking to replenishing the oils back in my nails after gardening. I have even use it for a additive for my shampoo rinse routine.

  7. So excited for you both – and proud to have helped edit this gorgeous book. XO

  8. Congrats on this! How much fun to have written your own book. It’s a lot of work, I know (in a former life I published books), but the thrill of finishing a long term project like this is worth it. And publishing it yourself is so smart – it’s the way things are going to be for most authors in the future, I think. Great subject, too! Best of luck.

I love mixing it with herbs and spices for a dipping sauce for bread.

Every day I use olive oil to cook with, and every time there is a little drop left on the lip of the bottle after I pour. I take that and use it to moisturize my lips right there on the spot, so not a drop of this liquid gold ever goes to waste.

I use olive oil in all of my cooking and even in some of my baking. Best way and
easiest is in a small dish with salt, pepper and a touch of dried oregano and
dip good bread into it and enjoy.

Olive oil is good on bread and on veggies. We use it when cooking, and it is essential for pizza!

I use it over vegetables to roast in the oven. I’ve read that some of the communities in Greece that have shown unusual longevity add a little olive oil to a dish once it is cooked.

The first time I tasted olive oil with its pure unadulterated taste that was delicious to eat was sauteing it with garlic, oregano and rosemary and pepper and salt under a low flame and dipping in slices of fresh sourdough bread!

I absolutely love olive oil and go through so much!! I drizzle it on popcorn, cook with it, use it as a moisturizer. It’s particularly good as a carrier oil for essential oils. When my hands and feet get too dry, I put a dab of oil on. Love it!
