Today is my kids’ last day of school. But they get out so early today, that I’ve asked my self why they call it the Last Day when the kids are in school for about 3 hours? In any case, summer vacation is starting and all of us are ready for it.

When the weather warms up, we are always looking for ways to cool off. Sure, with kids that usually means ice cream and popsicles. But a smoothie is a great way to cool off with something nutritious and less sugary. And this creamy Kiwi Avocado Smoothie hits the spot.

Why you must try this recipe

Avocado smoothie? Yes, no joke. When you get a box full of avocados you put them to good use. Besides making Avocado Hummus, I decided to branch out of my own comfort zone and make a smoothie, a healthy green avocado smoothie.

I positively adore avocados, and I do get that I’m blessed to live in Southern California – home of the best avocados in the world. Avocados are not only delicious, but also incredibly delicious but also very good for you.

Avocados contain more potassium than bananas and loaded with heart healthy monounsaturated fatty acids. Avocados are also high in fiber, antioxidants and rich in Vitamin K, Folate, Vitamin C and Vitamins B5 and B6.

And this kiwi smoothie is filled with not only avocados, but also green apples, green grapes and fresh mint.

Expert tips and recipe FAQs

I loved that tart taste, but it was a bit too sour for my boys. The Princess loved it, of course. She loves things on the sour side. If you find the smoothie too sour for your personal taste, feel free to throw in a banana, drizzle of honey or sprinkle in some protein powder if you want.

Why add avocados in a smoothie?

Avocados make your standard smoothie very creamy, without the addition of adding milk or yogurt. So if you are looking for a creamy vegan smoothie, then adding some avocados is the obvious choice. The flavor of the avocado is mild and doesn’t dominate your smoothie. The other fruits and vegetables you add to your smoothie will give you the flavor you are looking for.

What fruit mixes well with kiwi?

If you want to make a kiwi smoothie, there are several fruits that work well with it. Try using avocados, green grapes, green apples, mangos and bananas. You can also add greens like spinach, kale and mint.
