I’m so happy this week because the deals are back! YEAH! After following the sales and flyers, you learn the patterns of the big grocery chains and you can smell the deals coming! It also the week before Halloween, so you know if a holiday is around, you’ll find some great party prices! This is one of those weeks where the deals are a-plenty and you can stock up your freezer with lots of great cuts of meat.
Chuck roasts are back on sale, this time at Albertsons for $1.77/lb. Ralphs/Kroger has 90% lean ground sirloin for $1.99/lb. Remember, ground sirloin is a better quality of meat, and of course, tastier than regular ground beef. Whole pork tenderloin and pork shoulder country style ribs are both on sale at Albertsons for $1.99/lb. Another great roast, the pork shoulder blade roast is on sale at Vons/Safeway for 88¢/lb (limit 3). And a family favorite, the whole chicken, is on sale at Vons/Safeway for 88¢/lb, too. If you are too lazy to cut up your chicken, you can get legs, thighs and leg quarters for 99¢/lb at Albertsons and boneless skinless breasts for $1.99/lb at Ralphs/Kroger. You can’t say the economy is keeping you from making a fantastic home-cooked meal, people!
Apples are a screaming deal at Ralphs/Kroger this week with 49¢/lb for Gala apples. Grapefruits are popping up in the grocery stores and you can stock up on giant Texas Grapefruits 2/$1 at Albertsons – because EVERYTHING is big in Texas! Sorry, I couldn’t resist! Get a 5lb box of Satsuma oranges for only $3.99 and large papayas 2/$4 at Ralphs/Kroger. Red seedless globe grapes are at Albertsons for only $1.29/lb.
White and brown onions are on sale at Ralphs/Kroger for 2lbs/$1, Roma tomatoes at Vons/Safeway for 99¢/lb, Fresh Express salads and slaws are at Ralphs/Kroger for 99¢, and assorted fall squash is on sale at Ralphs/Kroger for 99¢/lb. Also at Ralphs/Kroger you can find orange, yellow and red bell peppers for 10/$10. Albertsons has a better deal on the red bell peppers, 79¢/ea, for those who are really penny pinching.
If you are baking for the holidays, load up on powdered and brown sugar at Alberstons, they have 1lb bags for 79¢/ea, and Carnation evaporated milk for 79¢/ea at Vons/Safeway. If you are feeling the flu coming on, stock up Ricola or Halls cough drops at 99¢/ea at Ralphs/Kroger, combine with a coupon to get it even cheaper! Same goes with Colgate toothpaste, also on sale at Ralphs/Kroger for 99¢/ea.
Got a Halloween party? Plenty of drink options are on sale. Minute Maid fruit punch or lemonade is 10/$10 at Albertsons. All the grocery chains have great deals on soda, but for Coca-Cola drinkers, the best deal is at Ralphs/Kroger. With a coupon you can get 4 12-packs of participating Coke products for $10. But you do need the coupon in the Ralphs/Kroger circular.
Listen to the oohs and aaahs as you take this roasted chicken to the table! And it tastes as good as it looks, too! The glaze is easy with maple syrup, soy sauce, rice vinegar and a few dashes of hot sauce. You apply the glaze after you douse your bird with a sherry reduction. This combination gives your chicken it’s beautiful red-orange hue. For the full recipe, click here!
You all know I like it tastey and easy! Here is a great dessert full of fall flavors: apples, pears and cranberries. And true to the crisp’s nature, the simple recipe yields such amazing flavors. For the full recipe, click here!
