Cookbook Review: Best 100 Juices For Kids {Giveaway}

Cookbook Review: Best 100 Juices For Kids. Giveaway on ends 5/11/14.

Kids love sweet stuff. It’s  no surprise. I know I am not alone when it comes to saying no to the kiddos about sugary drinks. It’s a losing battle where I am typically the bonafide mean mom. But, I make it up to them periodically when I bring home Green Machine, pomegranate juice or orange juice. But I still wear my mean mom title proudly.

So when fellow blogger Jessica Fisher/Good Cheap Eats and Life as Mom asked me to review her newest cookbook, Best 100 Juices for Kids, I was all in.

I don’t juice much, besides the typical freshly squeezed oj and our beloved pomegranate juice. I leave the juicing to my husband, as he loves his the mechanical aspect of the auger juice machine in our house.

What I love about Jessica’s book are the varieties of juice recipes she has developed. From using sweet potatoes, zucchini and ginger, Jessica has all fruit juices to veggie-fruit juices featured in her book. You will definitely find a healthy, low sugar juice recipe that both you and your child will like.

My kids love Naked Juice’s Green Machine blend. But I always wondered if I could replicate something like it at home. I made Jessica’s Winter Rainbow Juice which includes apples, carrots and rainbow chard. My juicer required some extra chopping for the carrots and apples so I could juice them, but it was well worth the work.

All 3 kids loved it.

And being the frugal, innovative mom that Jessica is, she even included recipes to use that leftover fruit pulp so NOTHING gets wasted. The kids have gone through the book and selected every blend they want to try, including Jessica’s recipes to replace those expensive sports drinks. What a great way to use up the produce I always stock up on during the summer months!

  1. My good friend can’t get her granddaughter to drink anything green and she stresses about it all the time. I’ll tell her about this book and maybe she can give her something she will drink.

  2. I love to juice but don’t like all the pulp, glad to hear her cookbook takes care of that! Right now I’m into the Suja juices at Costco – it’s a 3-day cleanse and I love the green juice.

  4. We don’t juice as much as I’d like to, partially b/c I’m just not sure what flavor combos would be good. This book looks like a great thing for beginners like me!

    My fav smoothie/juice to make my daughter is to mix frozen strawberries, froz banana, soymilk, yogurt, protein powder and some apple juice. She loves it!

    I like any juice with cucumbers and carrots! And I noticed if the juice is red or orange with ice in it, the young ones will at least take a sip.
