Cherry Tomato Bloody Mary… or Maybe the Muddled Mary?

A new twist on a classic drink this muddled Cherry Tomato Bloody Mary is perfect for those garden tomatoes. A splash of olive oil gives it extra flavor.

It’s nice to be back on the blog again. It seems like ages since I was able to write regularly and frequently here. A lot of things have been happening in the past month: kids finished school, The Professor graduated from Middle School, summer started, I attended an olive oil sensory class at UC Davis and I get my baby fix in every Wednesday when I watch my niece’s little bundle of BOY!

I found myself too busy to exercise,  blog and even sleep! I’m so relieved that summer is here! Maybe I’ll be able to relax?

The biggest event in our lives has to be that my baby boy is going to be starting high school this fall. It is one fact I just can’t wrap my head around. I’ve had “nightmares” of him driving a car. I wake myself up with a jolt and think, “Wait, he’s only 14 years old!”

Driving a car. I am so NOT looking forward to this version of hell.

In that past couple of months, my ONE gray hair (that I pluck out since it is front and center) has multiplied to THREE gray hairs. The joys of my 40’s continues with a doctor visit where I was brutally enlightened that I was in the perimenopause stage of life. I almost started laughing out loud. Or did I cry? I’m sorry, but I still think of myself as a 30-something.

Hey, at least I’m not fooling myself by saying that I think I’m 23 or in college!

Nothing screams that you’re getting older than becoming a GREAT AUNT. I mean, I know I’m great, but, well… you know. Okay, my husband’s niece is about 16 years younger than me, but I’m a Great Aunt. Ugh.

Another milestone of turning 40 is finding your already decrepit metabolism now appears non-existent. All of those diet tricks that worked in my “youth” to drop 5-or-so pounds are a faint memory. My body shifted and morphed after bearing three kids and now I have more parts changing without having any control on my part.

I’m sorry, but I did not approve of this new stage of life, thank you.

A small metal tin with cherry tomatoes next to a glass carafe of olive oil

When I sat down to write this post, I swear I was going to write about summer and how I’m giddy with excitement for our garden tomatoes to ripen. I didn’t mean to wallow in my pity party.

Shall we toast to all things beyond our control with this muddled Cherry Tomato Bloody Mary? Since my garden tomatoes are not yet ready, I bought these beauties at the store. No tomato juice in this Bloody Mary. I muddled it like a mojito. I love the texture. Those babies are good for persons of ALL ages.

A little drizzle of some robust extra virgin olive oil and down that hatch!
